Thursday, January 3rd - Looking Back

Last year I made 25 resolutions. Let’s just say that was a bit over-zealous. Because I did like 3 of them. I did, however, have a good chuckle reading back on my overly ambitious goals for 2012.

1. Be dressed and ready every morning by 10 am. And on the days that I don’t work out in the morning, be dressed and ready by 8 am. This happened for like two months, I think.

2. Read my scriptures during the day so that Jacob and I can read together at night. We never read together at night. We read silently in the same bed with each other.

3. Kneel to pray morning and night and be consistent in our husband and wife prayers. We were quite consistent in our husband and wife prayers, and I don’t miss morning prayers, but most nights I pray laying in bed.

4. Stick to my weekly cleaning routine so that the house stays orderly and clean. That lasted a month or two.

5. Lose at least 40lbs by the end of 2012 (depending on how much I gain by April).  I lost 20.

6. Run a half marathon towards the end of 2012. Not even on my mind once school started.

7. Spend more time playing with my children and doing activities with them that are productive and educational. If spending more time with my children means letting them watch TV while I did school, then yes, I kept this one.

8. Learn to see my worth and believe in it no matter what the world would make me feel about myself. I don’t know about this one. Sometimes I like myself, sometimes I don’t.

9. Limit the boys’ time watching television. See number 7.

10. Improve my photography skills and grow my business. Slowest year yet.

11. Learn to sew. I got a sewing machine. I haven’t turned it on.

12. Go to school full-time for another semester. Ok, I ALMOST did this. I went 3/4 of the time.

13. Read more church literature and magazines so that I can be a better teacher. Nope.

14. Do my visiting teaching each month and become friends with the ladies I serve. I’m such a crappy visiting teacher.

15. Take more pictures and journal at least 2 times a week. Life gets busy, and I don’t always have my camera. Sue me.

16. Cook dinner 4 times a week.  We ate, and that’s what’s important.

17. Live a healthier lifestyle and get to bed before 11 during the week. I had healthier times, but I never got to bed before 2 am once school started.

18. Spend quality time with my husband so that we never lose that “in love” feeling. Accomplished. We love each other.

19. Show more patience for my children and stop responding with frustration. Most nights I sing them to sleep, some nights I screamed them to sleep.

20. Be diligent in my church calling and responsibilities. Stupid school.

21. Grow a garden, or at least attempt to. Where in the heck was I supposed to do this? I planted some flowers in some pots on my porch.

22. Get out of debt. We got out of debt and got into it again. That’s how we live while we are in school. We’ll get out of it again in February when our tax return comes.

23. Attend the Temple 1-2 times each month. This quit happening for the first few months of Logan’s life.

24. Buy a family vehicle. Check. Although this kind of voids number 22.

25. Have FHE every week. We were pretty good about FHE.

So for 2013, I’m going to aim a little lower.

1. Go to the Temple once a month.

2. Lose 30 lbs.

3. Do my visiting teaching every month. By golly, I must do this!

4. Do all necessary things for the day before I turn on the computer.

5. School Teagan 3 times a week.

6. Learn to sew.

Number 16 is mt favorite- only because it's always on my list. And I always suck at it.
